Australian Global College needed its Moodle e-learning platform to take more users, protect student data and fit its programs. We rebuilt the hosting on AWS and customized Moodle itself.

The challenge

  • A Moodle setup with little room to customize content.
  • Weak security measures around student data.
  • Performance that slipped as users grew.

What we did

  • Built a three-tier architecture on Amazon EC2, a load balancer and Amazon RDS.
  • Added a VPC, security groups, network ACLs and IAM for protection.
  • Set up Amazon CloudWatch monitoring, and used Cost Explorer and Trusted Advisor to tune cost.
  • Built backups on Amazon S3, EC2 and EBS, and load-tested the platform.
  • Customized Moodle content, navigation and theme, and trained staff to update it.
