A digital file management system run by a government entity. Document approvals slowed at peak traffic, so we reviewed it.
The facts
The result
Faster document processingGovernment offices saw faster processing times and a more reliable system
The size of the system we reviewed
- 12,000+government offices
- 100,000+users
- 64districts
- 20,000+mobile app downloads
The challenge
- Slow document approvals at peak traffic.
- Several possible causes: the front end, the MySQL database and resource-heavy processes.
- Delays in decisions, and more load on the IT support teams.
What we did
- Checked the front end for speed and responsiveness.
- Reviewed MySQL memory management and resource-heavy processes.
- Looked at PHP capacity, and at the speed of document dispatch and note sending.
- Analyzed latency across the whole request path.
- Profiled the application and ran load tests.
- Drew charts of how the application behaves, for the customer to read.
What came of it
- DecisionsFaster processing improved decision-making in government offices.
- ReliabilityA more reliable system for managing digital files and workflows.
- PeopleStaff productivity improved, and public trust in digital services grew.
