Belgian pharmaceutical company

A Belgian pharmaceutical company that uses alcohol as a raw material had to keep track of regulation. We built a Regulatory Tracking Tool on AWS and secured it in layers.

What the tool alerts on

  • Regulatory changes
  • Deadlines
  • Task progress
  • Audits and inspections
Notifications go out by email.

The challenge

  • Many documents, logs and reports to store and find.
  • Regulation that changes, and deadlines that must not be missed.
  • Tasks, audits and inspections to assign and follow.

What we did

  • Hosted the tool in a VPC across several Availability Zones, behind a load balancer.
  • Ran the services on Amazon ECS, with Amazon S3 for documents and OpenSearch for search.
  • Used SQS queues and Lambda functions to pass work between parts.
  • Set up CI/CD pipelines, and Mailjet for email notifications.
  • Limited traffic with security groups, network ACLs and route tables.
  • Encrypted public traffic with TLS, and protected private APIs with short-lived JWT tokens.
